How Therapy Works
Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You might be unsure what to expect, or whether it’s the right time. This page outlines how I work and what our sessions might look like.
Your First Session
Each session lasts 50 minutes. This gives us enough time to explore what’s bringing you to therapy without feeling rushed.
I offer both in-person sessions in Sligo and secure online sessions. You can choose the format that feels most comfortable and practical for you.
The first session is an opportunity to speak about what has led you to seek therapy at this time. You might want to talk about something specific, or you may just have a general sense that things don’t feel quite right.
You don’t need to arrive with a clear explanation or a plan. Therapy is a space to explore, reflect, and make sense of things together. It’s completely okay if you’re unsure where to begin
Everything discussed in our sessions is treated with care and confidentiality. I work in line with professional and ethical standards to provide a safe and respectful space for you to speak openly. There are some rare limits to confidentiality — for example, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else — but these would always be approached with openness and transparency

What I can help with
You don’t need to fit neatly into one category. If something is troubling you, it’s worth talking about
How I work
I work in an integrative way, meaning I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on what might be most helpful for you
Rather than applying a single method, therapy is shaped around your needs. We work together to understand what’s happening in your life and decide what feels most useful to focus on.
Some sessions may explore patterns in thinking or behaviour. Others may focus more on emotions, relationships, or past experiences. The process is thoughtful, collaborative, and paced in a way that feels manageable
